The USC U.S.-China Institute (USCI) is proud to co-host the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Southern California (CLTA-SC) 2025 Fall Technology Workshop, taking place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10 AM to 4 PM at the University of Southern California.
This year’s workshop topic is “Innovating Language Teaching in the Digital Age: AI, Digital Tools, and Pedagogical Transformation,” which will bring together educators and thought leaders to explore innovative ways technology can transform language teaching and learning.
Keynote Address
The conference will open with an inspiring keynote presentation by Dr. Valerie Sun, Principal at Duff Language Magnet Academy, who was recently recognized for her pioneering work in integrating technology into language education. Dr. Sun will share her insights on the impact of AI and digital tools in reshaping classroom pedagogy.
Teacher-Led Presentations & Roundtables
In addition to the keynote, the workshop features four veteran K-12 Chinese teachers presenting practical strategies for integrating technology into their classrooms. There will also be three roundtables where teachers will share hands-on experiences.
One highlight will be a roundtable led by Dan Li, who will represent USCI by presenting on innovative ways to teach Chinese calligraphy in K-8 classrooms. Her award-winning lesson plan, recognized by the American Society of Shufa Calligraphy Education (ASSCE), was inspired by USCI’s earlier collaboration with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) calligraphy exhibition.
Special Opportunity for Pre-Service Teachers
To support the next generation of educators, USCI will cover the registration fee for the first 10 pre-service teachers currently enrolled in any K-12 education or credentialing program.
