Virtual Talk: Chinese American Stories in English Picture Books (May 31, 2025)

Virtual Talk: Chinese American Stories in English Picture Books (May 31, 2025)

We invite all K-12 educators to participate in the Southern California Council of Chinese Schools' online lecture, where Dr. Yichien Cooper will explore how to use English picture books in the classroom. From the perspective of students, she will discuss how stories can be used to spark emotions and deepen students' understanding of cultural learning. This lecture will focus on the role of Chinese stories in English picture books and how they can be incorporated into Mandarin language teaching. The goal is to cultivate students' interest in Chinese culture and enhance their cultural identity in the context of East-West cultural exchange. We hope this event will assist teachers in integrating cultural education into daily language learning, making the language learning experience more engaging and meaningful. Additionally, we welcome suggestions for other relevant topics or tools based on the speaker's experience.
