Semester and Academic Year terms are both available. The approximate dates are from Early September to mid-December for the Fall Semester, early February to early June for the spring semester and early September to early June for the yearlong program.
Applicant Requirements:
Minimum 3.0 USC Cumulative G.P.A.
Language Requirement:
Students must have completed a minimum of three semesters of college-level Mandarin Chinese or the equivalent.
Courses:
Upon taking a placement test upon arrival, all students take approximately 6 units of Chinese Readings and 6 units of Spoken Chinese at the level they are placed into. More than 12 different levels of these courses are offered.
Elective Courses:
Elective courses are also offered to students and include Chinese Cinema, newspaper readings, Chinese idioms, classical Chinese, listening, and pronunciation. One elective course in English is offered each semester.
Extracurricular Courses:
Students may take extracurricular classes in subjects such as taijiquan, Chinese musical instruments, and Chinese cooking on a non-credit basis. Each student participant is also paired with a Peking University student for weekly one-on-one Chinese language tutorials. The purpose of these tutorials is to give students extra conversational practice in Mandarin, assist with homework assignments, and experience the lifestyle of a Chinese student at Peking University.
