Yinyang: A Living Matrix of Chinese Thought and Culture

Image

Robin R. Wang, Ph.D., Professor of Philosophy and Director of Asian and pacific Studies, Loyola Marymount University, will discuss how the theory of Yinyang has shaped Chinese thought, culture and the way of life for thousands of years.  It has also gained widespread recognition in the West, arguably the best known Chinese concept and icon.  But what is yinyang?  Where does the theory come from and what is it rooted in?  How can we ``read`` the yinyang symbol?  Based on careful research and fieldwork, this talk will examine in depth the scope and role of yinyang in Chinese thought and culture, clarifying its meanings and its manifestations in Warriors, Tombs and Temples: China`s Enduring Legacy.
