The expanding geographical scope of modern Chinese literary studies in recent years has sparked several debates. Departing from a primarily mainland focus, new spotlights on diasporic and Sinophone literatures seem to stake out a new subfield. But what exactly do these new divisions and declared frontiers tell us about the multiplying scales of literature that are currently occurring in all literary fields, not just Chinese? Opening up a larger conversation about the new overlaps in the globalizing tendencies of literary studies, this talk takes a different perspective by looking at the finer joints of literary processes that are rearticulating the questions of modern Chinese literature.
