Talk by Ann Waltner, University of Minnesota
In 1735 in Paris Jean-Antoine Fraisse published a book of images from China. One of these images is of a wedding procession as it wends its way through a village to the groom's house. This talk will look at the procession, and at those observing the procession, paying particular attention to female participants and observers. The talk will also touch on what this image can tell us about the global circulation of images.
