Public Talk - Ann Arbor, MI

Wang Guangmei's qipao and the Two Line Struggle in Communist Feminism

This presentation is based on a chapter/paper addressing the visual evidence for the ideological conflict between Jiang Qing and Wang Guangmei over the appropriate performance of womanhood in state affairs. The presentation also demonstrates the centrality of the commodity form in 20th century Chinese modern feminism.
