The Western Jin poet Tao Qian’s 陶潛 (Tao Yuanming 陶淵明, 365-427) “Record of the Peach Blossom Spring” (“Taohuayuan ji” 桃花源記) expressed the universal and utopian quest for an alternative and better society. This symposium will consider the literary and artistic themes inspired by a story which resonated for generations of artists and poets in China, as well as Japan and Korea.
