Urban Governance and Citizen Rights in China and India

Speaker:
Xuefei Ren, Fellow, Woodrow Wilson Center

Today, 129 cities in China and 45 in India have populations of over a million people. Such large-scale urbanization has created severe governance challenges. Xuefei Ren will examine the evolution of urban governance in China and India from the 18th century to the present, and discuss how contemporary Chinese and Indian cities have become strategic terrain for remaking citizenship.
