Two outstanding ensembles join forces to perform works melding Chinese and Western instruments, cultures, and composers. This concert features world premieres of pieces by Derek Bermel and Wang Guo-wei; Four Movements for Piano Trio by MacArthur Fellow Bright Sheng; Romance and Dance by Charles Ives Living Award winner Chen Yi, and works by 2011 Pulitzer Prize winners Zhou Long and Huang Ruo.
Music from Copland House includes Derek Bermel, clarinet; Harumi Rhodes, violin; Thomas Kraines, cello; and Michael Boriskin, piano. The Music from China ensemble, under the artistic direction of Wang Guo-wei, features performers on erhu (fiddle), guzheng (zither), yang-chin (dulcimer), and pipa (lute).
