This talk will explore the future of Taiwan cinema as an artisanal mode of production that depends heavily on human factors. It is this professionalism that helps Taiwan cinema expand its productions from art cinema to mass entertainment. Each group of filmmakers has its own market niche. The talk will use these exceptional professionals as an entry point to understand how the Taiwan film industry works and to assess future paths.
Cindy Chan got her PhD from the Radio-TV-Film department of theUniversity of Texas at Austin. She was assistant professor at the Filmmaking Department of the Taipei National University of the Art. Her M.A. is from the Radio-TV-Film Department of Northwestern University. Cindy has had extensive experience in the media industry; she worked as an executive for international organizations that included STAR TV, Time Life Asia, Hong Kong International Film Festival, and Hong Kong Film Archive.
