“Asian Diasporas in Cinema: Migration Globalization, and Diffusion”, the Pacific Basin Institute's 2007 film festival, continues. Still Life won the Golden Lion award at the 2006 Venice Film Festival. In the film, two couples who were separated meet again at Fengjie, a Yangzi River town. Xinhua, the official Chinese news agency, quoted Jia as saying he was continuing to focus on the lives of ordinary people, but in this film had focused on individuals who make choices in order to get what they want. "The entire movie is about making choices. The main characters obtain their freedom and dignity by making their own decisions about love." (Xinhua, 9/11/2006)
