Featuring the only surviving feature length Chinese martial arts film from the silent era (1929) that still exists in its entirety, Red Heroine is a robust telling of a young woman’s transformation from a captive maiden, rescued by a Daoist hermit, who reemerges three years later as a full-fledged warrior, flying to the sky to deploy her newly acquired Kung Fu skills and avenge her grandmother’s death. Join us in the S. L. and Betty Huang Courtyard for a reception before the performance.
