Symposium:
University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point
February 13 - March 10, 2012

The highlight of COFAC Creates: Xu Bing-The Art of Rewriting China will be a special exhibition in the Edna Carlsten Gallery of the Noel Fine Arts Center (NFAC) on the UWSP campus featuring the work of groundbreaking contemporary Chinese artist Xu Bing. To encourage and facilitate dialogue on contemporary Chinese art and culture, this interdisciplinary program will include a series of lectures, workshops, films and performances.

Xu Bing program offers students, faculty and community members dynamic experiential educational opportunities that promote an understanding and appreciation of contemporary Chinese art and culture. In addition to having the rare opportunity to engage with Xu Bings work in the Edna Carlsten Gallery from February 13 through March 10, participants will have the chance to interact with scholars, artists and performers renowned in the field of contemporary Chinese studies. The artist Xu Bing will visit the UWSP campus from Beijing, China to attend the opening reception and participate in a series of hands-on workshops and lectures. In celebration of that complexity and diversity, participants will also have the unique opportunity to see performances by the famed Lily Cai Dance Company from San Francisco and the Qi Shu Fang Peking Opera troupe from New York City. We have also organized a Chinese film festival that will run the entire month of the series.
