Pursuit of Immortality: Did the First Emperor Succeed in His Ambition?

Image

Learn more about the background and history of the First Emperor, Qin Shi Huang Di, with none other than our own Jay Xu, Director of the AAM, while the current exhibition on China’s Terracotta Warriors and other artifacts from the tombs are on display. Dr. Xu will take us through the life and times of the First Emperor who united China, and give us some insight into his legacy. Dr. Xu will propound exciting new theories about the finding of the tombs, and how they have played a part in our knowledge of that period of history.

Dr. Jay Xu has been Director of the Asian Art Museum since 2008. Previously he was the Chairman of the Department of Asian Art at the Art Institute of Chicago, and Curator of Asian Art at the Seattle Art Museum. He began his curatorial career at the Shanghai Museum, and received his MA and PhD from Princeton University.
