2012 will mark NCLC’s 5th anniversary, an appropriate opportunity to reflect on the State of the Field—the past, the present, and the future of Chinese language education. The number of Chinese language and culture programs has grown rapidly in the past years, and this is an opportune time to focus on the needs and strategies for building sustainable, well-articulated programs, which result in a high level of language proficiency for students.
