Image

The last decade has witnessed the massification of Chinese higher education and the beginnings of a shift in priorities from scale expansion to quality improvement. Dr. Xu Dan's talk will provide an overview on the major strategies of the Chinese government concerning the quality aspect in the overall massification of higher education, including government directed programs to gauge and improve the quality of undergraduate teaching at Chinese universities and the goal-oriented top-down quality evaluation. These government-induced efforts are having some beneficial effects, but they are in need of adjustments that Dr. Xu Dan will explain to promote the long-term development of China's higher education system.
