The Hague Ruling on the South China Sea: Where Does Asia Go From Here?

Speaker/Performer: T.J. Pempel, Political Science, UC Berkeley

With the landmark decision from the international tribunal in the Hague, China’s claims to the South China Sea have been roundly repudiated. But without means of enforcement, and with China unwilling to accept the ruling, the future course is unclear. A round-table of regional experts discuss the security outlook in Asia in the wake of the Hague decision, implications for US policy, and how the Asia-Pacific region may move forward in the current political context.
