This year the world's most populous nation announced a nationwide shift to a two-child policy, heralding an end to the three-decades plus one-child policy, the world's largest and most ambitious social experiment that has radically re-shaped one sixth of humanity and created long-lasting global consequences, affecting everything from the environment to economics to the global adoption market.
Mei Fong was formerly a Wall Street Journal China correspondent. She is a third-generation Chinese immigrant who was born in Malaysia, and is believed to be the first Malaysian to win a Pulitzer. She has also won awards from the Society of Publishers in Asia, the Society of Professional Journalists, well as Amnesty International’s Human Rights Award, administered by the Foreign Correspondents Club of Hong Kong. She is a graduate of the National University of Singapore and holds a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University. She was on faculty at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School before moving to greater Washington DC., where she is currently a fellow at think-tank New America.
