The prolific Pang Ho-cheung has directed everything from horror movies (Dream Home) to gross-out laugh-fests (Vulgaria) to sparking rom-coms (Love in the Buff). Aberdeen, the opening film of this year’s Hong Kong International Film Festival, extends his range even further. Elegantly balancing drama and comedy, Pang “delivers a beautifully observed portrait of a modern Hong Kong family that fuses social commentary with fantastical imagery and his trademark cheeky humor to wonderful effect” (James Marsh, Twitch Film).
