Film Screening: Memories of the Strike

Image

Description
With distinct approaches, these three short films, either fiction or documentary, bring us back to the buzzing discontent of the workers and farmworkers on the portal docks, in the farming fields and on the streets and zoom in on the lined faces, calloused hands of the unsung heroes in China, Taiwan and Delano, CA.

In This Program
Grand Canal: "A Greek Tragedy told in a Chinese pop song", GRAND CANAL profiles a boat captain who must collect debts from his fellow boaters.

A Breath From The Bottom: A heart wrenching confrontation between a peasant father and his cop son inside the capitol in Taipei.

Delano Manongs: Marissa Aroy’s remarkable documentary shedding light on the Filipino farmworkers behind the Delano Grape Strike in 1965 and who joined forces with César Chávez to found the United Farm Workers Union (UFW).
