Speakers Biography:
Dr. Fan-gang Zeng (曾凡钢) is the director of the Center for Hearing Research, the research director of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, and a tenured professor of anatomy and neurobiology, biomedical engineering, cognitive sciences and otolaryngology at the University of California, Irvine. He received his bachelor's of science degree from the University of Science and Technology of China, and a doctorate from Syracuse University. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, 20 book chapters, two books, and holds 10 U.S. patents. Dr. Zeng is renowned for his achievements in treatment of hearing disorder, unraveling brain mechanisms in loudness coding and speech recognition.
In 2006 Dr. Zeng co-founded Nurotron Biotechnology with headquarter and manufacturing workshop at Hangzhou, China, and R&D center at Irvine. He led the R&D and developed cochlear implant device for severe hearing loss patient, with innovative sound processing technology for Chinese patients. In 2011, Nurotron 26 electrode cochlear implant was approved by Chinese SFDA and launched in Chinese market. This has been listed in Chinese National Science & Technology Pillar Program during the twelfth “Five-year Plan” period. Dr. Zeng has helped raise $50 million for five medical device companies in both the United States and China, and served on the Advisory Board.
