Covering China in the Age of Coronavirus

American journalists from three major newspapers were expelled from China in March, including from Hong Kong and Macao, in a series of escalating moves by the U.S. and China as bilateral relations spiraled further downward since the coronavirus outbreak. Susan Shirk interviews two reporters from The New York Times, Chris Buckley and Steven Lee Myers, about their last reporting trips before leaving China, the impact of the epidemic on Chinese politics, and how the U.S. and China might resolve the clash over journalists’ access.
