Public Talk - Los Angeles, CA

Conversation with Zheng Chongbin and Stephen Little

Image

Deeply influenced by the West Coast’s Light and Space movement, Zheng Chongbin’s practice encompasses biomorphic abstraction, abstract painting that use carbon-based ink and synthetic acrylic, in addition to large-scale light and space installations, and video works. He is a pioneer and leader of the movement known as “contemporary ink.” Zheng’s work embraces both Chinese ink-painting traditions and contemporary art practice, creating a fresh dialogue between the two modes of working through his personal experience of living between Shanghai and the Bay Area. Born in Shanghai in 1961, Zheng Chongbin received rigorous training at the Chinese Painting Department of the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now the China Academy of Fine Arts) and the San Francisco Art Institute.
