David T. Donahue was named Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Visa Services in September 2008. In this role he is responsible for maintaining an efficient visa process that secures U.S. borders while facilitating legitimate travel to the United States.
Mr. Donahue joined the Foreign Service in 1983. He was previously Director of Policy Coordination and Public Affairs for the Bureau of Consular Affairs. Prior to that he was Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs in Mexico City, Mexico from 2005 – 2007; Consul General in Manila, Philippines from 2002 – 2005; and Consul General in Islamabad, Pakistan from 1999 – 2002.
Mr. Donahue has had previous overseas assignments in Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, and Pakistan. In Washington, he has served as a watch officer in the Department’s Operations Center, as a desk officer covering Bangladesh, and as a training officer for Consular Affairs at the Foreign Service Institute.
Mr. Donahue is a native of Indiana and graduated from St. Meinrad College in 1976. He is married with two daughters.
