"Chinese Financial Reform: Balancing Growth in China" is a public talk sponsored by the Asia Society that focuses on Chinese economic development. The program will outline the key steps and sequencing for financial reform in China in a way that will safely modernize the monetary regime, strengthen the regulatory and financial stability framework, and move toward a fully market-based system of financial intermediation. The program will be moderated by Adrian Dickson, Global Head, News Product, Thomson Reuters.

About the speaker:

Nigel Chalk, Mission Chief for China and Senior Advisor in the Asia and Pacific Department of the IMF will discuss recent economic and financial developments in China. He will draw upon the work of the recent Article IV Consultation and the IMF's Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP) to highlight the importance of financial sector liberalization and reform as a means to help transform China's economy to one that is propelled by private consumption-led growth.
