China's Recent Medical Reform

A pioneer in China’s effort to control tobacco use, Dr. Gonghuan Yang will present on how China’s recent medical reform can be used to prevent rising epidemics of chronic diseases. Dr. Yang is Deputy Minister of Health for the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Yang has contributed to a number of World Bank studies on health in low- and middle-income countries and was a Global Health Leadership Fellow at the World Health Organization (1999-2000). She earned her medical degree from West-China Medical University in 1982 and studied epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health (1987-1988). She has published over 70 academic papers in international and national journals; and has written more than ten monographs and books including Health proportion: Theory and Practice, Behavior Risk Factors Surveillance – Methods & Application, and Deaths causes and their risk factors among Chinese Population.
