China is on the cutting edge of Environmental Sustainability, and it is an edge that cuts both ways. The country faces some of the greatest pollution and resource degradation crises on the planet, but these problems are also compelling Chinese researchers and policy makers to work on innovative efforts to find solutions that could transform China into a global leader in sustainability.
Dr. Du Huanzheng will present his talk "Policy Framework and Cases of Circular Economy in China,” on the latest initiatives in Guiyu (infamous for e-waste pollution) and new solutions for China’s municipal solid waste and food waste.
His presentation will be followed by a commentary by NGO activist and researcher Chen Liwen.
Huanzheng, Professor at UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development, is a renowned expert of the circular economy in China and author of more than 90 articles and books on the subject. He serves on numerous national level policy-making bodies and research institutes including: Director of the Circular Economy Research Institute at Tongji University; Vice Director of Chinese Circular Economic Assessment at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; and as a leading consultant for the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce.
Chen Liwen is an environmental NGO activist and researcher specializing in solid waste management, recycling, incinerators and electronic waste.
