China & India: A Tale of Two Giant Economies

Image
The discussion will focus on the contrasting paths that China and India have undertaken to develop their economies. The two large countries have sharply different political systems and demographics. Their progress has sometimes been compared with that of a hare (China) and a tortoise (India). Which is more durable? What obstacles do the two governments face to growth and economic stability?

Dr. Komal Sri-Kumar is President of Sri-Kumar Global Strategies, Inc., a macroeconomic consulting firm he formed in January 2013 to advise multinational firms and sovereign wealth funds on global risk and opportunities. Prior to founding the firm, Sri worked at the Trust Company of the West (TCW) from 1990 to 2012, last serving as the firm’s Chief Global Strategist. Prior to TCW, Sri was Senior Vice President at Drexel Burnham Lambert, and Executive Vice President of DBL Americas, specializing in country risk analysis. He has been Chairman of TCW’s Comprehensive Asset Allocation Committee since 1997, and is also a Senior Fellow at the Milken Institute. Sri holds an M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, and M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University.
