The Certainty of Writing

Image

Peter Sturman, professor of Chinese painting and calligraphy at UC Santa Barbara, will discuss the evolution of Chinese calligraphy from the late Qing dynasty (1644-1911) to the early Republican Period (1912-1949), with a particular focus on the writing of statesman Weng Tonghe, founder of the Weng collection.

This lecture is related to the exhibition, “Treasures through Six Generations: Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from the Weng Collection” (April 11— July 13, 2009 at The MaryLou and George Boone Gallery)
