APEC 2010 Summit: “Seeking Prosperity After Crisis”

Image

Accelerating regional economic integration and promoting a new, sustainable growth model for the Asia-Pacific region are themes that will dominate the agenda of the annual APEC Summit, which will be hosted this year by Japanese Prime Minister Kan from November 12-13 in Yokohama. As Asia increasingly assumes a primary role in driving global growth and leading the world economy out of recession, APEC continues to play a vital role as the premier forum for the region’s major trading partners to cooperate and engage on economic and trade matters.

For the tenth consecutive year, the Asia Society will join the US National Center for APEC and the US APEC Business Coalition in hosting a post-APEC briefing to review the issues that will be discussed at the Yokohama Summit and what they will mean for the region's future. The program will also provide an opportunity to explore how these issues and outcomes will be carried forward during the US hosting of APEC in 2011. US Senior Official for APEC Kurt Tong and Assistant USTR Wendy Cutler will anchor this annual program. This year’s program will also include a discussion of business executives on key private sector initiatives being developed to support the APEC 2011 USA hosting effort.

Speakers:

Wendy Cutler, Assistant US Trade Representative for Japan, Korea and APEC Affairs

Robert Hormats, Under Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Agricultural Affairs

Kurt Tong, US Senior Official, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
