As a former public servant in the Urumqi Department of Justice and then as
founder of the Urumqi Legal Aid Center in 1998 Chen Dong has long been
directly involved in enhancing the legal aid system of his adopted city.
His presentation will focus on contextualizing China's government-sponsored
legal aid system by looking at its historical origins, its subsequent
development and its current status.
