Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.

The exhibition can be visited Thursday, 9 am to 8 pm, Friday and Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, noon to 6 pm.
Panel Discussion -- "Hong Kong Today – the Special Administrative Region at 10" June 28, 2007, 3 - 5 pm
To mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (香 港特别行政区政府), China's Ministry of Culture commissioned a photographic examination of this diverse and exciting city. The exhibition consists of 66 large images covering everyday life, architecture, trade, cultural activities, and more. These images will be displayed in USC's Doheny Memorial Library from June 27 through July 1. The Doheny Library is the new home of USC's East Asia Library. Visitors to the exhibition may also tour the library's new reading and meeting spaces.
PRC Consul General Zhang Yun and USC Vice Provost for Globalization Adam Clayton Powell will open the exhibition at an invitation-only reception on Wednesday, June 27.
On Thursday, June 28, the USC U.S. - China Institute and the Center on Public Diplomacy will host a panel discussion on "Hong Kong Today -- the Special Administrative Region at 10." The panel features political scientists Stanley Rosen (director of USC’s East Asian Studies Center) and James Tong (former director of UCLA’s Center for East Asian Studies), syndicated columnist and communication studies professor Tom Plate (UCLA), and attorney, commentator, and educator Frankie Fook-lun Leung. The discussion is 3 – 5 pm at the USC University Club Pub Room. Refreshments will be served.
