Sichuan Earthquake Aftermath

The Viterbi School's Jean-Pierre Bardet shares his firsthand observations of the damage caused by China's recent quake.

Professor Jean-Pierre Bardet, chair of the Viterbi School's Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, will present findings regarding the magnitude 8 earthquake that struck Sichuan, China, on May 12.

Bardet was part of a U.S. delegation invited by the Chinese Earthquake Authority to survey damage in the aftermath of that powerful temblor. The quake caused more than 70,000 casualties and produced massive landslides and pervasive surface fault ruptures.
