Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.
American Philanthropy in China: Retrospective and Prospective
The Asia Society New York presents a celebration of 100 years of philanthropy in China
Co-hosted by Asia Society's Center on U.S.-China Relations and China Medical Board, an independent American foundation for advancing health in China and Asia, this special event will provide an opportunity to reflect on a century of Rockefeller and American philanthropy in China, while also looking ahead toward the emergence of a new Chinese philanthropy.
What is the legacy of American philanthropy and cultural engagement in China? What will be the forces shaping philanthropy, both local and international, in this new era where China is increasingly prosperous and influential worldwide?
Speakers will include:
Jonathan Spence: Yale historian and author of over a dozen books on China, including The Search for Modern China (1991)
Mary Brown Bullock: China Medical Board Chair
Lincoln C. Chen: China Medical Board President and Founding Director of the Harvard Global Equity Initiative, former Taro Takemi Professor of International Health and Director of the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies
Melissa Berman: President and CEO of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Inc.
Yimei Chen: Executive Director of China Development Brief
