Four leading Chinese scholars from East China Normal University (Huadong shida) will lead a discussion on mentalities, thoughts and grassroots life in China. East China Normal University has been known for more than a decade as a powerhouse in the studies of culture, literature, and intellectual history. Professor Xu Jilin will discuss secular tends and spiritual life. Professor Chen Yingfang will discuss urban development, its crisis, and the livable space of mobile and migrant citizens. Professor Gao Ruiquan will discuss transitions and orientations in Chinese thought and mentalities. And Professor Luo Gang will talk about the grassroots imagination of intellectuals.
