Benedicte Vibe Christensen, former Deputy Director of the Africa Department of the IMF, will speak at Cornell University on China's macroeconomic impact in Africa.

Benedicte Vibe Christensen is a former Deputy Director of the Africa Department of the IMF, where she was in charge of policy issues in the sub-Saharan Africa region. Since joining the IMF in 1980 she has worked in European and Asian countries, the former Soviet Union, and African economies. She worked on policy development in the IMF’s Policy Development and Review Department, covering issues related to low-income countries, such as development of new facilities, review of economic programs and conditionality, policy guidance on governance issues, and social issues. She was also an Advisor to one of the Deputy Managing Directors in the IMF and served in the Finance Department in charge of issues relating to financing concessional lending and debt relief to the poorest countries. Prior to joining the IMF she worked for the Central Bank of Denmark and taught economics at the University of Copenhagen. Since 2009 she has published articles on “The Impact of the Global Financial Crisis on Emerging and Frontier Markets in Africa” (with Jack Boorman) for Africa Emerging Markets Forum, and on “China in Africa—A Macroeconomic Perspective” as Visitor to the Center for Global Development, Washington DC.
