Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.
Contemporary Asian Art Lecture Series: China
Eliot Kiang is a Chinese artist who lived in China from 2001-2007. His talk will focus on projects that emphasize Chinese contemporary art.
Eliot Kiang is the owner of the Morono Kiang Gallery, a contemporary art gallery located in the historic Bradbury Building. Kiang lived in Beijing from 2001-2007, and was active in the Chinese contemporary art movement.
Kiang's Beijing-based projects included art publication design, the coordination of exhibitions and programs such as Mayor Villaraigosa's Beijing visit. Upon his return, he opened Morono Kiang Gallery in 2007. Since then, it has showcased projects from around the globe with an emphasis on Chinese contemporary art.
