On Jan 1, 2010, what has been touted as the world's biggest trading area was inaugurated. The China ASEAN Free Trade Agreement mandates that tariffs be eventually reduced to zero for all commodities. CAFTA has elicited different responses from Southeast Asia, from optimism that it could lead to more prosperity to fears of Southeast Asia's agriculture and industry being wiped out.
