Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.
4th Annual Traditional Chinese Dance Showcase
USC's Traditional Chinese Dance presents "Dance to a New Year."
Where
"Dance to a New Year" is a Chinese cultural performance showcase portrayed through dances choreographed and participated by the members of the University of Southern California's Traditional Chinese Dance (TCDance) of this academic year 2009-2010. This showcase highlights TCDance’s mission, which is to promote and increase awareness of Chinese culture through traditional Chinese dance in the USC community. Through this event, TCDance seeks to enhance the breadth and depth of cultural and performance art experiences at USC. TCDance will also bring otherwise disparate organizations and student groups on this campus together through artistic collaborations, both uniting the diverse students and making space for creative talent and experimentation.
The 4th annual Traditional Chinese Dance Showcase event will take place at 7:00pm on February 27, 2010 at Bovard Auditorium at the University of Southern California.
This year USC Traditional Chinese Dance will be putting on its first drama dance production "Mulan" for the second half of the show. The first half of the show consists of traditional Chinese dance pieces highlighting China's various geographical dance styles. The "Mulan" production will bring people together from the USC campus and the SoCal community for this cultural experience. The process of preparing for this show gives student-performers a chance to create original and unorthodox cultural dance pieces. This annual show facilitates the presentation of all of TCDance’s works at one time, thus offering the community a deeper, richer understanding of the geographical and cultural influences on Chinese dance performance. We will also be performing and collaborating with artists of other cultures and concentrations within the USC campus, such as Alosus Dance Company and USC Repertory Dance Company.
USC Traditional Chinese Dance is the first and only Chinese dance group at the University of Southern California, founded in the fall of 2005 by Jennifer Sun. We hope to explore, promote, and educate the public about Chinese culture and Chinese traditional and folk dance by performing at events on and off campus in the Los Angeles area.
