Media Training Seminar: “US-China Relations: What’s the Big Story and How Do I Cover It?”

Where
Speakers: John Pomfret, Washington Post and a panel discussion with Scott Kennedy, RCCPB; and Wang Bing, Financial Times and Caijing Magazine.
Location: IUPUI Kelley School of Business, Room BS 4095, 801 W. Michigan St, Indianapolis
Date: February 1, 2010
Time: 12:00 pm-3:00 pm
The US-China relationship is of monumental importance to both countries and to the global economy, including Indiana’s, but it can be difficult for regional media to identify the true big stories and know how to provide an angle meaningful to the local community. Pomfret, Kennedy, and Wang will discuss key political and economic trends in China and US-China relations and how reporters can valuably cover these stories. The program is geared toward journalists but is of value to business, policymakers, and the community more generally.
John Pomfret of The Washington Post, was one of the first American students to go to China in 1980. He was the Post's Beijing Bureau Chief from 1998 to 2005, then served as the US West Coast bureau chief for two years before becoming editor of the Outlook Section. He is author of Chinese Lessons: Five Classmates and the Story of the New China(Henry Holt, 2006).
