Lin Fei-fan, one of the Sunflower Movement leaders, and Joseph Wu, member of the Democratic Progressive Party and a former chief representative of Taiwan to the United States, recorded videos for the symposium.

As part of a symposium focusing on Taiwan and its relations with China and with the United States, the USC U.S.-China Institute played parts of video addresses recorded in Taipei by two critics of Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou's policies. Coming as it did during the dramatic occupation of Taiwan's legislative building by student demonstrators, these voices were included as a means of more fully understanding the range of opinion present in Taiwan today.
Lin Fei-fan 林飛帆is a twenty-six year old graduate student in political science at National Taiwan University. He was among those who planned the takeover of the legislative yuan and served as one of the principal spokespeople for the movement. His recording was made during the last week of the occupation specifically for inclusion in the symposium.
Joseph Wu (Wu Jau-shieh) 吳釗燮 is a political science professor at National Chengchih University. He is the Democratic Progressive Party's representative to the United States. In 2007-2008, he served as Taiwan's chief representative to the United States, heading the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Washington, D.C. His recording was also made just ahead of the symposium for inclusion at the event.
