The Center for Chinese Studies at UC Berkeley is pleased to invite applications for a one-year fulltime postdoctoral fellowship. The term of the appointment is August 1, 2018 to July 31, 2019. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2018. The Fellowship is intended to foster the academic careers of recent Ph.Ds and to allow the revision of the dissertation for publication, or for research on a new project. The Postdoctoral Fellow will give a public lecture on their research as part of the Center for Chinese Studies Colloquium Series, and they are expected to take part in regular Center for Chinese Studies events and workshops. The Fellow will be provided with office space, library privileges and a salary that starts at $48,216 but may vary depending on experience, plus benefits.

Please join the USC U.S.-China Institute, the East Asian Studies Center, and the USC School of Cinematic Arts for a screening of the 1993 Chinese film Woman Sesame Oil Maker (香魂女). It tells the story of a woman in a small village who buys a peasant wife for his mentally disabled son after her sesame oil business becomes unexpectedly successful. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director, Xie Fei (谢飞).
