Hsi Lai Temple is really a great opportunity for students to see Chinese Buddhist culture in real time. After walking through the main gate, it's very easy to forget that you're miles away from Los Angeles.
The Hsi Lai Temple is a beautiful place to take students! The structure of the buildings and their location within each other with the large courtyard and numerous steps reminded me of the Forbidden City in Beijing, except the Hsi Lai Temple is a lot newer and more polished, obviously. The actual architecture of the temple with its entrance openings and roof tops was similar to many buildings in China. This would be a fantastic place for students to observe Chinese style architecture and fashion.
The Hsi Lai Temple is such a great opportunity for students to experience the Chinese Buddhist culture right here in Los Angeles. I love the calm serenity of the grounds and the many statues representing mystical creatures of the Buddhist culture. The architecture of the temple is Chinese influenced and are replicated from the design of the buildings of the Forbidden City. This would be a great opportunity to take students to see Chinese culture and architecture.
I recently visited the Hsi Lai Temple and this was such an amazing experience because I got to understand a little bit better the concept of the buddha and the philosophic and religious approach to it. Also the vegetarian buffet was great and it was a unique experience to see all the artifacts inside the museum. I would love to take one of my classes to this place so they can broaden their perspectives on Asian cultures.
