Article entitled, "The Jews in Modern China"

The above titled article was on the website of USC-China Institute in July, 2008. Aftr reading the article, I decided to go to the Museum of Tolerance and see the exhibit celebrating the friendship between the Chinese and the Jewish people today.

The Jews and the Chinese have something in common and that is tht they are two of the most ancient civilizations. Both of them have lasted for centuries. The second thing that they have in common is that they both place a high emphasis on learning and on family ties.

Fleeing Nazi-dominated Europe during World War II, the Jews found a safe heaven in Hong Kong and in Shanghai as they fled from Nazi persecution. While living in China, the Jews were influenced by Chinese culture and they introduced aspects of their own culture to the Chinese. The two cultures lived in harmony.

In Europe, there had been so much anti-semitism that the Jews were forced to flee during the years 1933-1945 (if they could flee, that is), but in contrast to that anti-semitism in Europe, the three major faiths in China (Buddism, Taoism, and Confucianism), do not disparage other faiths at all, thus providing safety for the fleeing Jews. Despite the fact tht most nations closed their doors to the fleeing Jews, China did not!

Thank you China!!!!
