2/6 discussion continues about the presenting of Jade

During our first class at the UTLA building on February 6th, the question came up, why Jade? Why was Jade used as a gift from the King to a prince? Professor David Schaberg, our last speaker, suggested that it, like the bronze metal, was from the earth and it took a long time to take it from the earth and therefore it was a prized possession. I began research of the subject of jade and discovered in a book about Eastern traditions in a chapter relating to the I Ching/and a list of yin and yang opposites that jade (opposite metal) was considered (in this volume anyway) a "yang" and to come from the congealed semen of the dragon. My books are in the car, and I'm in the lab. However, I will get the title, author and page number on my next posting.
