Response to session 5

In the lecture part of this session, once again Professor Jennifer Jung-Kim, was quite through with her knowledge of Korea, she once again delivered quite a lot of pertinent information. I was quite astonished to see the pictures of the protest. What I thought was appalling was how many people you can see in the photos, how crowded it can be, just to think of how one would move about, is beyond my comprehension. What about if one has to use the restroom, how does one accomplished. The population numbers are so great (8miilion in North Korea, when the amount of actual space is so little. This is just too crowded; I wonder how they do it, and how life actually is over there. Then she mentioned the size of a home. Again this amount of space just seems so tiny, especially if a family was to live in this space. Professor Jung-Kim compared it to that of a motel room. Motel rooms are small with just enough space to fit a bed a table, a couple of chairs and a restroom, here in the states. Now I imagine how one of these motels can fit in a kitchen, and maybe a living room, and have a family living in such closed quarters. Wow, I cannot fathom me living in an apartment in Korea. The number of casualties that occurred there, 1.5 million Dead because of the Korean War, that number/statistic is just incomprehensible. I felt sad at that moment realizing how many innocent lives were lost to war.
