Join us for a free one-day workshop for educators at the Japanese American National Museum, hosted by the USC U.S.-China Institute and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. This workshop will include a guided tour of the beloved exhibition Common Ground: The Heart of Community, slated to close permanently in January 2025. Following the tour, learn strategies for engaging students in the primary source artifacts, images, and documents found in JANM’s vast collection and discover classroom-ready resources to support teaching and learning about the Japanese American experience.

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978) This award winning film traces the true-life story of Monk San Te (portrayed by Gordon Liu), one of the fabled Ten Tigers of Shaolin. This film opens the Shaolin temple doors and changed the direction Hong Kong kung-fu cinema.
Eight Diagram Pole Fighter (1983) Starring Alexander Fu Shen in his last film, this cinematic treat chronicles the heroics of the real-life Yang family men, which gave rise to the 9th century legendary Yang women warriors who successfully lead the Chinese army against foreign invaders.
